5 Simple Tips for Cleaning Your House Fast

Everyone has been through this process. You commit to cleaning your home, give yourself a checklist and guidelines, and then find yourself sifting through photos and nostalgic items for hours.

Does this sound familiar?

If so, you’re not alone. Many people dread cleaning their homes. They’ll push it off as long as possible because they don’t know how to do it quickly.

If you’re in need of some tips for cleaning your house, you’re in the right place. Keep reading for five of our favorite professional house cleaning tips so that you can breeze right through your next cleaning day.

1. Commit to One Room at a Time

When you’re cleaning, it’s tempting to do little bits at a time. You start a little bit of the kitchen, a little bit of the living room; but this is how you end up never finishing anything.

When you’re cleaning a room, stay there. Bring a box or bag with you for “things that don’t belong” so that you don’t leave the room to put them away.

For example, if you’re cleaning the bathroom and you discover a mug that belongs in the kitchen, don’t go put it in the kitchen. Leave it in your “doesn’t belong” box and keep going.

2. Keep a Garbage Bag

This is a similar idea as the “doesn’t belong” box. You should always have a garbage bag with you when you’re cleaning.

In nearly every room you’re going to find something that can be thrown away. Maybe they’re old papers. Maybe there are tufts of fur on the carpet. Maybe the bathroom trashcan needs to be emptied.

If you take time to move all of these things from the room to the garbage can, you might lose the plot. Bringing the bag with you will keep everything in one place (and you might be satisfied after seeing it fill up throughout the day).

3. Clean Top to Bottom

When you’re cleaning off your counters, or the mantle over your fireplace, where does the dirt go when you neglect to catch it?

Probably the floor, right?

Cleaning top to bottom means that you’re starting with those elevated surfaces and ending with the mop or vacuum. This way, you don’t have to re-vacuum after new debris has fallen to the ground.

4. Keep Tools on Hand

We’ve mentioned how important it is to stay in one place, right?

Keep all of your cleaning supplies in a box or bucket and bring them with you (larger things like vacuums or mops likely won’t fit in the box, but keep them in the room). Even if you don’t think you’ll need something, bring it.

This stops you from having to wander back and forth to grab another cleaner or brush.

5. Clean Often

Cleaning the house can feel like a monumental task. It won’t feel this way if you’re routinely doing these speed-cleans.

Try to clean like this at least once per week (and always clean as you go). Your house should stay relatively tidy and the big cleaning days will be less overwhelming.
